Trustees Needed
It’s a really exciting time for Love Haslemere Hate Waste. As our projects grow and our impact expands, we’re now in the process of becoming a registered charity — a big milestone for our organisation.
With this next chapter comes the need for a small team of passionate, skilled trustees to help guide us, support our volunteers, and shape the future of our work. Secretary/Trustee
We’re looking for an organised, detail-focused Secretary / Trustee to help support the governance and smooth running of Love Haslemere Hate Waste as we become a registered charity.
This role plays a key part in ensuring the Board of Trustees functions effectively, meetings are well run, decisions are properly recorded, and we meet our legal and reporting responsibilities. You’ll work closely with the Chair and Head of Operations to support strong governance and good decision-making.
Strong organisational and administrative skills
Good written communication and attention to detail
Reliability, discretion, and integrity
A collaborative approach and interest in sustainability and community action
Willingness to learn about charity governance (training provided)
You don’t need previous trustee or governance experience. We provide a full induction and ongoing support.
What we’re looking for:
Supporting the Chair to organise and run trustee meetings
Preparing agendas and circulating papers
Taking accurate minutes and maintaining governance records
Supporting compliance with Charity Commission requirements
Maintaining trustee registers and key documents
Supporting trustee induction and good governance practice
In addition, you’ll share the responsibilities of all trustees, helping shape our strategy, oversee finances, manage risk, and support the development of our initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
Around 8–15 hours per month initially, reducing to 6–8 hours per month once established
Attendance at Board meetings (in-person or online) and occasional additional meetings
Time Commitment:
Three-year voluntary appointment
Reasonable expenses reimbursed
Term and expenses:
Treasurer/Trustee
We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Treasurer / Trustee to help guide Love Haslemere Hate Waste’s financial health as we grow and become a registered charity.
This is a key role on our Board of Trustees, providing oversight of our finances, helping shape strategy, and ensuring strong financial governance. You’ll work closely with the Chair and Head of Operations to support budgeting, planning, and financial sustainability.
Experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping or related fields
Confidence working with budgets and financial reporting
Clear communication skills, especially when explaining finance to non-specialists
Strategic thinking and sound judgement
An interest in sustainability and community action
Previous charity experience is helpful but not essential. We provide a full induction and ongoing support.
What we’re looking for:
Overseeing budgets, management accounts and annual financial statements
Ensuring appropriate financial systems, controls and policies are in place
Monitoring financial performance and advising on financial sustainability
Supporting financial planning, forecasting and risk management
Advising on the financial impact of strategic decisions
Liaising with external accountants or auditors when required
Supporting the Board’s understanding of financial responsibilitieS
