Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes! There are no hire fees or deposits. Borrowing from our Library of Things is completely free of charge to everyone in the Haslemere community.

Why do you need my card details?

We ask for a payment card at the point of booking as security only. Your card will never be charged unless an item is returned late, damaged or not returned at all. Card details are held securely by Stripe and removed from our system once your loan is closed with no outstanding issues.

What are the late fees?

Items returned after your agreed return date are charged at 50p per day per item. You'll receive a reminder email 3 days before your return date and again on the day it's due back so you're never caught out!

What if I need the item for longer than 2 weeks?

You can renew your loan online through MyTurn before your return date, subject to the item not being reserved by another borrower. If you're unsure, contact us at hello@lovehaslemerehatewaste.co and we'll do our best to help.

How many items can I borrow at once?

You can borrow up to 5 items at a time. This may be subject to change depending on demand.

What if an item is damaged or has parts missing when I collect it?

Please check your item carefully at collection and let library staff know immediately if anything doesn't look right. Do not accept an item you're not happy with - we want every borrower to start with a complete, working item.

What if I damage an item during my loan?

Please contact us as soon as possible at hello@lovehaslemerehatewaste.co. We understand accidents happen and will always aim to resolve the situation fairly. Please do not attempt to repair items yourself.

Can I suggest a new item for the collection?

Absolutely! We love hearing from the community about what would be useful. Drop us a message at hello@lovehaslemerehatewaste.co or look out for our "Thing-spiration Board" at Library of Things events - your suggestion might just make it into the collection!

I don't have a credit or debit card - can I still borrow?

We understand that card registration may not be possible for everyone. Please contact us at hello@lovehaslemerehatewaste.co and we will do our best to find a solution on a case-by-case basis.

Is the Library of Things connected to Haslemere Library?

Our items are stored at and collected from Haslemere Library, and we're grateful for their wonderful partnership - but the Library of Things is run entirely by Love Haslemere Hate Waste volunteers. Haslemere Library staff are not responsible for the service.
